Hi ho funseekers! It's the summer version of Mikey saying 'hey Gomer' to y'all. There's something about summer that makes me even nuttier than usual, I don't know if it's simply the promise of unlimited barbecue or the fact that women seem to have chosen halter tops as their form of summer expression. If I were an evolved human being perhaps the allure of those freely bobbing fellows would not make me crazy. But apparently I'm not and so it does. But I'm not here this week to talk about sex [some of you sigh with relief, some of you abandon this page] I'm here to talk about the greatest addition to your summer backyard party--- bocci ball. I know what you're thinking; this is some kind of lawn bowling game out of 'The Godfather' that only slow walking old men play and it always looks like their drinking while they do it. To these people I say--- egzackly! What you say--'but Mike you've been playing basketball all these years, whatsup with this bocci thing? And I answer thusly 'What the hell did basketball ever give me but a broken ankle [6 yrs. ago] and a severed achilles tendon [5 mons. ago]. With this bocci 'thing' [as you put it] I am able to slowly traverse the full spectrum of my yard, and all this while enjoying an adult beverage. Not only that, but it allows me to talk about stuff with friends [shooting the crap] and enjoy the playful banter [busting balls] that makes a sporting event worthwhile. And you Cambridge folk will like this--it's not a sport based on size, strength, or even agility. I'm not ashamed to admit that I've had my ass kicked by one or two very cagey female players. The point I'm trying to make is bocci=good. I believe that bocci ball will eventually surpass even horse shoes [gasp** he must be kidding!!]--[no--he's not] as the favorite American backyard game. Pardon me for this weeks' short edition but I feel the need to take my balls out to that new-mowed lawn and toss them about!! Ah what pleasure!!!....until next week when I will try and answer the question 'What the hell is bocci ball anyhow'....Adios amigos...Mike
